River Restoration and Enhancement
Through the River Restoration Program, the Friends work in collaboration with multiple partners, including government agencies, private landowners and conservation organizations, to plan and implement floodplain and riparian habitat improvement projects within the Verde River Greenway. During the last three years, we have worked on dozens of river restoration projects.

Amongst the invasive plants along the Verde River, four are seen as the biggest threat to riparian native plants. The
Tamarisk (salt cedar),
Alanthus Altissimus (tree of heaven),
Arundo Donax (giant reed) and the
Russian Olive have incredible abilities to outcompete Fremont Cottonwoods, Gooding Willows, and other dominant native species.
Trail Construction and Maintenance
The Friends have joined forces with the Dead Horse Ranch Trails Coalition and other trails advocates to help local land managers with improvement and maintenance of existing trails and to assist with the development of new trails, particularly paddle trails, along the Verde River Greenway.
